Xobni: Lightning fast mail search on MS Outlook

By Naveen | Jul 1, 2009

On an average I get 250 + mails per day. If I am on a PTO for a day or two the next day when I get back to work I will be literally drowned in the mails. Outlook offers ability to filter mails to arrange your mails based on your priority and people which is cool. Also there is another issue, you need to move your mails from the mail server to your local storage or else you will hassled with mails “Your mail box if full”. This adds on to the complexity. When you really need to search for a mail or an attachment quickly  you will go crazy and more often than not you will  not be able to trace the mail or the attachment. Murphy’s Law Q.E.D ;)

Recently I came across a plugin from a startup called Xobini. Its spelled as Zob-nee. I installed it on my Outlook and I was blown away with the speed with which it can pull out email, attachment, contacts, phone numbers for you. Literally with snap of fingers !

I was thinking what the heck does Xobni mean ? After pondering for few seconds I realized that they have got the name by writing “Inbox” in the reverse order i.e., “xobni”

Check out what Bill Gates had to say about Xobni.

You can grab your copy from here.

My life has become a lot easier after installing Xobini on my Outlook.

Aviary: Online Image Editor

By Naveen | Jul 1, 2009

I came across a super cool Online Image Editor called Aviary. I was blown away by the feature offered by Aviary and also probably I may never use MS Paint when I have hooked on to Internet  for editing images.

One of the cool feature that I use often on Aviary is when I need to capture the screenshot of the webpage. I was sick of doing a “Print Screen” and editing the image on MS Paint.  Life is made simple by aviary to capture the screenshot of the webpage, here is how you can do it.

(1) If you are looking at taking a screen shot of http://www.google.com

(2) All you need to do it add “aviary.com” as prefix to the URL. E.g.  aviary.com/http://www.google.com

(3) There you go , you have a screen shot of the webpage ready to be saved on to your local storage.

Isn’t it cool ! :)

FireFox 3.5 is here

By Naveen | Jul 1, 2009

I have been using Firefox from the time it made its debut in 2004. Mainly because its open source and reliable speed, stability and its highly customizable.

But competition has heated up in the recent past in the Internet Browser space, with Google Investing in Chrome, Apple investing in its Safari and Microsoft doing a good job with IE8 and last but not the least Opera from Norwegian Software Company I was wondering Firefox needs to do something fast to maintain and grow its market share.

Firefox has answered with its latest offering Firefox 3.5. You can check out its fantastic new feature by clicking here.

You can download the pre-release version from here.

You can download the final version from here.

I wanted to install Google Analytics on my Website, to monitor the traffic to my website. I am new to both Google Analytics and Wordpress, but to my surprise I found out installing Google Analytics on wordpress is very simple.

All you need to do is

(1)  Register with Google Analytics by clicking here

(2) Create a profile for your website by selecting the Radio button “Add profile for a new domain”.

(3) You would be provided with a Tracking code to be pasted in wordpress.

(4) Now download wordpress plugin from here.

(5) Unzip the plugin and upload the folder  to /wp-content/plugins

(6) Now go to the WordPress Dashboard and click on “Plugins” and Activate the  “Google Analyticator” plugin.

(7) After activating the plugin , go to Setting and select Google Analytics.

(8) Paste the code that you got in Step (3) in the textbox provided to paste the code. Please paste the New Tracking Code (ga.js).

(9) Then Click on Update Options.

(10) Allow some time for your website to sync up with Google Analytics, go back to Google Analytics, beside your profile if you see a “Green Tick” then it means Google Analytics is able to receive data from your website.

Best of luck tracking your visitors :)
